SCHOOL-BASED POLICY OF PS 130Q FOR USE OF CELL PHONES, COMPUTING DEVICES, AND PORTABLE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY
Students are permitted to bring cell phones to school. For students in fourth and fifth grade, cell phones may be turned on before the school day for the purpose of completing/showing daily health-screening. Cell phones may not be turned on during the school day or during afterschool or school-sponsored weekend programs.
Computing devices (laptops, tablets, iPads, Nooks, Kindles) may not be turned on or used during instructional time except with the approval of the teacher.
Portable music and entertainment systems such as iPods, MP players, Nintendo DS may not be turned on or used while on school property, during the school day or during afterschool or school-sponsored weekend programs.
Confiscation and return of electronic items:
1st Offense: confiscation of item and return at end of school day
2nd Offense: confiscation of item and return following parent conference
3rd Offense: confiscation of item and return following student entering into behavioral contract
Final Offense: Revocation of privilege to bring item to school until the end of that school year.
Discipline:
Students who use cell phones, computing devices, and/or portable music and entertainment system in violation of any provision of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor Regulation A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“ISUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the NYCDOE Discipline Code.
